PRIVATE LESSON POLICIES

Private lessons are scheduled as standing weekly appointments. These policies are designed to provide consistency for students while allowing reasonable flexibility when schedule changes are necessary.

STANDING WEEKLY LESSON TIME

Your regular lesson time is reserved specifically for you. Consistent attendance is an important part of musical progress, so students should plan to attend their regular lesson each week whenever possible.

Occasional schedule changes are understandable, but a standing lesson time should not be treated as an optional weekly reservation. Frequent cancellations may make it difficult for the studio to continue holding a regular time.

OFFICIAL LESSON SCHEDULE

The online appointment system is the studio’s official scheduling record.

Students and families should confirm that their expected lessons appear correctly in the online schedule. Even if a change has been discussed by email, text, phone, or in person, please make sure that the change has actually been entered into the appointment system.

If an expected lesson does not appear, or you do not receive your usual appointment reminder, please contact your teacher.

CANCELLATIONS

Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel a lesson.

Lessons cancelled with at least 48 hours’ notice will not be charged.

Regular attendance is still expected. Your weekly lesson time is reserved specifically for you, and the cancellation policy is intended to provide flexibility for occasional conflicts rather than frequent absences.

RESCHEDULING & MAKE-UP LESSONS

With at least 48 hours’ notice, students may reschedule when another appropriate lesson time is available.

Make-up lessons should generally be scheduled within two weeks of the original lesson. Availability varies by teacher, and make-up times cannot always be guaranteed.

CHANGES WITH LESS THAN 48 HOURS’ NOTICE

Lessons cancelled or changed with less than 48 hours’ notice will normally be charged.

When possible, your teacher may offer an alternate time or an online lesson instead.

Online lessons are often an excellent option for illness, transportation problems, travel, or other last-minute circumstances that prevent an in-person lesson.

Late make-ups and alternate times are offered at the teacher’s discretion and are not guaranteed.

ONLINE LESSONS

Online lessons may be used for regularly scheduled instruction, make-up lessons, travel, minor illness, transportation difficulties, or other situations when meeting in person is not practical.

Whenever possible, please contact your teacher before cancelling to see whether an online lesson would be a good alternative.

TEACHER CANCELLATIONS

If a teacher needs to cancel or move a lesson, the teacher and family will arrange a mutually agreeable make-up time whenever possible.

If a make-up lesson cannot be arranged, the student will not be charged.

LATE ARRIVAL

Students should arrive on time and ready to begin. Students who arrive late will normally receive the remainder of their scheduled lesson time; lessons cannot usually be extended because another student may be scheduled immediately afterward.

If your teacher’s studio door is closed, the teacher may be finishing the previous lesson. If it is more than five minutes past your scheduled start time, please knock so the teacher knows you are there.

PAYMENT

Private lessons are billed per lesson rather than as monthly or semester tuition.
Rates vary by teacher, lesson length, and program. Payment options may include a card on file, tap-to-pay, emailed invoice, or cash, depending on the teacher.

HOLIDAYS, BREAKS & SCHEDULE CHANGES

Because lessons are billed individually, private lesson schedules may vary around holidays, school breaks, performances, teacher travel, professional commitments, and other scheduling needs.
Teachers will communicate significant schedule changes directly with students and families. Please continue to confirm upcoming appointments through the online scheduling system.

COMMUNICATION

Please communicate directly with your teacher about scheduling, cancellations, make-ups, or other time-sensitive matters.

Google Classroom is used for assignments, recordings, music, practice information, and lesson resources, but important scheduling changes should not rely solely on Google Classroom notifications.

PRACTICE & LESSON EXPECTATIONS

Preparation, practice, parent participation, Google Classroom, books and materials, and lesson etiquette are covered separately in our Practice & Lesson Expectations.

These expectations are an important part of successful private study and apply alongside the scheduling and cancellation policies above.
